Situated to the East of the Geordie heartland of Newcastle Upon Tyne between Whitley Bay and North Shields, Tynemouth Longsands is a bit of a Northern gem. As you drive out towards the coast suburbia gives way and you’re given a view to behold. A long golden beach as the name would suggest with a natural beach break, plenty of convenient parking on the bank (if you can get a space) and a very well-maintained beach with clean water to match and to top it off super-friendly locals. Winter and spring are the best times to surf consistently and the swell can be great with clean sets and enough space for everyone from beginners or advanced to get amongst it.

On and around the beach are a couple for surf schools, surf stores and equipment hire with in-season life guards, it’s a really excellent place to start surfing too with a rock-free shoreline but challenging enough on bigger days out the back for the more savvy.

Arrive for daybreak and check out a cracking sunrise over the lighthouse to the south or at sunset for last light either are equally as memorable.
